Our Eighth Month of School

It is already time for our next homeschooling post! This is the time of the month that I give my readers a sneak peek into our homeschool days throughout the month. Telling you what we loved, what we didn’t love and what we added. We are going through My Father’s World First Grade as well as their Kindergarten God’s Creation A to Z.

This month we were full blown focused on school again. We are nearing the end and we can not wait. We’ve had some fun units that the boys enjoyed! I did a little better with taking pictures this time around.

First Grade

This month we tackled units 28-31. This month we actually spent a lot of time catching up on our science, as you know we lost our book last month and we finally found it! I think a child thought he was being helpful and placed it in our school library books and it got wedged between 2 bigger books so when I combed through it all month I never noticed it. But I was searching for a different book and went super slowly and bam there it was. Iw as so relieved, we were just discussing buying another one. We did the whole months science lessons in one day, ignoring everything else on the docket. They had a blast doing so many water experiments and I was actually glad to just complete them all at once so I didn’t have to clean up the mess 5 different times. It ended up being a blessing in disguise!

We learned about water skin.

We learned how soap affects the water’s skin.

We learned all about siphons, water power wheels, and mixing.

We learned how air affects things, especially submarines. This experiment shocked the boys!

We learned about freezing, ice, condensation and evaporation.

We did some fun Bible time crafts. They ate honey while we discussed Bible verses that describe God’s Word as honey. He also made a basket weave craft. He really liked this one!

Kindergarten

The Little Guy tackled frog, fox, quail this month. We watched quite a few youtube videos on frogs and their life cycle in addition to a few crafts along the way. We made a great lifecycle book that looked like a frog! It was super cute, you have to get the free printable!

For the quail unit, I decided to simply focus on all birds in general and not just quails. I learned last year that there isn’t a lot of information out there on them. Little Guy loves birds so he really liked this unit! The boys both had fun creating their own parrot birds!

Science Fair

The boys first time participating in their first science fair! They had a blast preparing for it. Big Guy did science with light focusing on rainbows. Little Guy did a solar system mobile. They loved the whole night. Little Guy won third place, Big Guy won second and their friend won first! I’d say that was a success for the first time.

Daddy did basically all of the work with the boys for this event. I do school he took over the big science fair. Otherwise, they may not have done it! I helped them come up with a project, bought 95% of the material but Daddy came in and spent an entire Saturday doing each project with the boys. I was so thankful and the boys honestly loved their daddy time.

This Little Lady still tags along for it all!
