Contentment doesn’t come naturally. It is something we have to choose each day.

Contentment is a matter of the heart.

According to Websters 1828 content means rest or quietness of the mind in the present condition; satisfaction which holds the mind in peace, restraining complaint, opposition, or further desire, and often implying a moderate degree of happiness.

Let’s dissect this definition for a minute.

Rest in the present condition, does that describe you? It doesn’t describe me most of the time either.

Implying a moderate degree of happiness, what about that part? Does that describe you? Strike two for you too? I’m right there with ya, sister!

Contentment is finding rest and happiness with whatever situation you are in today. It doesn’t matter how much or how little you have. It doesn’t matter if your world is turned upside. It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor. You can still choose to be content and find happiness in the moment.

Contentment isn’t dependent on your possessions.

Contentment is determining ahead of time to choose joy no matter what’s going on around you. It’s choosing gratitude for what you do have. It’s realizing that even if your current situation doesn’t change, it won’t affect your attitude and outlook on life.

So how does the habit of contentment make you holy?

Contentment puts you at peace with whatever God’s puts into your path. It’s you fully trusting His will for life.

It is also you deciding not to dwell on the things you don’t have, that others may have.

It is not allowing yourself to focus on the “if only’s in life”. For example, if only your husband made more money so you could have a bigger house. If only your kids were older so you could have more date nights. If only you had more money so you can redecorate your home. If only’s only feed into your discontentment. They are poisoning your relationships, your walk with God and your outlook on life. It’s time to decide that you won’t talk or think this way.

Focus on your blessings more than the things you wish you had.

A woman who is content with her lot in life is a woman full of beauty inside and out. Discontentment is like a poison you are drinking every morning. Girl, step away from the cool-aid! Start your day out with thanking God for what you have, thank your husband for how he provides for your family and focus on your blessings throughout the day. You will be amazing at how much happier you will be and the smiles that come across your face.

Why is it hard for you to be content? What do you do each day to choose contentment?
