This year I am on a journey for joy. You can read more about how this journey got started here.
Lacking joy? I’d love for you to join me on the journey for joy?
So, what sparked joy for me this week?
- Our 8th Anniversary! This year my husband and I celebrated 8 years of marriage. We were able to enjoy going out to dinner at a new local bistro. We enjoy trying out new little restaurants in the area and this time my husband took it to another level by ordering duck for the first time. I couldn’t handle it. Kissing him after that was quite the challenge. This anniversary got me thinking. In the Christian circle, there seems to be this pretense that you need to put on this show that your marriage is perfect. You never fight, you never get snippy, you never struggle financially or disagree with anything parenting wise. If there are problems in the marriage, wives are made to feel like it’s their fault for not being submissive enough. The week of our anniversary I went against the grain and came out and said marriage isn’t always roses. It’s hard. Life is hard. There are going to be rough times. No marriage is perfect and I’ve seen too many marriages fall apart in the last decade to stay silent. You can live out your vows in the hard times, you can beat the current divorce rate.
- A surprise cake! My amazing friend surprised us with an anniversary cake. I was so shocked. It was one of the nicest things that someone has done for me in a long time. I felt especially loved that day! And it tastes downright amazing!
- Our last homeschool co-op field trip of the year. We took a break from packing for our move and went on a field trip to our local animal shelter. The boys had a blast but our Little Lady thought it was quite stinky! If she wasn’t screaming from the terror of an animal getting too close she was plugging her nose.
- Watching my husband set a goal and crush it! My husband got into running last May and this May he ran that same 5k with a specific goal in mind for his time. We went and cheered him on that morning and watched as he crushed that goal! It was exciting and he was so pumped. He has run other races throughout the year but with this being the second time running the same race he wanted to really crush his time from last year and he so did. It’s fun to cheer him on as a family.
It was a pretty exciting week! We had a full plate with our move coming up but we took the time to celebrate the little things as well. I love the month of May and I am sad to see it going by so fast!
