Clean up the kitchen.

You bet this makes the top of the list. the kitchen is the hub of the home. It seems like 90% of the living takes place in this in this one room. When the messy kitchen greets you first thing, it can make the sunniest morning feel glum.

A quick clearing of the countertops, crumbs and all, can make a world of difference. Coming down to a clean kitchen is a great feeling and starts your day out on the right foot.

Dishes

I hate having dishes in my sick in the morning. It’s the worst feeling starting your day off already having a long list of chores to do first thing. Doesn’t it feel so defeating and unmotivating, isn’t it?

Take the extra 10 minutes and load the dishwasher, you’ll be so much happier in the morning if you do. No more waking up dreading the messy kitchen and sink full of dishes! Doesn’t that sound peaceful?

Look over the next day’s Β to-do list.

This is something I need to do before heading up for the night because it jogs my memory as to what is going on the next day. Any work deadlines, will we need to be out the house early, are there any appointments on the docket that I’ll need to be up early for? A quick look at the next day’s to-do list will answer all of those questions.

It’s also a great time to brain dump. If you have any trouble sleeping or remembering things, now is a good time to get it all out of your head before heading to bed. It’s easier to sleep when you do. I’ve had one too many nights staying up late thinking about everything I couldn’t forget to do the next day. We all know that a well-rested mama makes for a smoother day.

10 minute tidy.

Ideally, if we can get in at least 10 minutes of tidying up the living room area then my morning the next day will be much much smoother. I don’t know about you but my brain cannot focus when the house is messy. I cannot concentrate and feel completely overwhelmed with everything on my to-do list when things are all out of sorts. A quick clean up takes care of all that.

There you have it, my non-negotiable things I do each night. Remember, a successful day starts the night before. There is no need to let your chaos control you. You don’t have to wake up feeling overwhelmed day after day. There is a better way. If you need any other help or encouragement in getting control over your nights (or mornings!) then I highly suggest Crystal Paine’s 14 day online courses.
